Datamancer and the Clanker
How would it be to make a trip back in time? Of course we all know that this is something impossible at the moment, but we could bring those times to the present through some items that for sure could have been used in the past, or at least they look like this would have been possible.
There is a workshop called Steampunk, and just as the name suggests it, the main point of it is to produce items that seem to come from the age of steam power. Richard “Doc” Nagy, who is working at Steampunk has given a sneak peak regarding the newest ‘contraption’ of the workshop. The name of the project is The Clacker, and you will have the possibility to buy it at an auction soon.
You might have never thought about this, but The Clacker is a complete PC suite that comes with mouse pad, mouse, keyboard, PC, speakers, LCD, a table and also a matching chair.
The display of the PC is a spinning mechanical display that might remind us of the “Analytical Engine” and the “Difference Engine” of Charles Babbage. These have been huge brass calculators that have been created at the beginning of the 1900’s.
The keyboard that comes with the PC perfectly complements the engravings on the LCD. The LCD comes with an antique video projector that can be found in the back. This turns the brass film reels, and the LED lights flash in a custom made projection box. All of the parts might be seen through the glass found on the side of the LCD housing.
The antique looking speakers also have volume and power control knobs at their base. In case you happen to like items of this kind, for sure you would be pleased to have a PC that seems to have come from the past.
