Elizabeth Taylor was a living legend and more so after her death. Her timeless beauty and elegance are stuff that legends are made of and will live on even after her death. Her exquisite jewelry was a source of admiration and she had a stunning collection of jewels that had been gifted by her seven husbands.
Even before her death, she had conveyed that she would like her jewelry to be auctioned after her death. Through the jewelry auction, she hoped to find caring homes for her precious jewelry.
Most of these beautiful pieces were gifted to her by Richard Burton one of her husbands. He lavished expensive gifts obn his wife and was proud to do so.
Her famous jewelry is now being prepared for auction by the end of this year. Christies will be auctioning them and some rare vintage jewelry is expected to come under the hammer. The auction house expects to auction 269 items including several rubies, diamonds, emeralds, pearls, rings, tiaras, necklaces etc. many of the pieces are vintage jewelry with history attached to them. These include a pear shaped pearl from the 16th century and a 33.19 carat diamond ring.
Her famous pearl necklace is expected to go for $2,000,000 to $3,000,000. It is the La Peregrina and is made with rubies, pearls and diamonds from the 16th century. It is a Cartier masterpiece.
Another beautiful piece is the Ruby Necklace which is expected to go under the hammer for $200,000 to $300,000. Her third husband bestowed it upon Elizabeth Taylor. It was a surprise gift and has matching earrings and a bracelet too.
A stunning white diamond ring with a 33,19 carat diamond is expected to go for anything between $2.5 million and $3.5 million. Richard Burton bought it at an auction in the late nineteen sixties.
A vintage jewelry coming up for auction has a whole lot of history attached to it. it is the taj mahal diamond pendant. It was originally supposed to have been a gift to Nur Jahan the favorite queen of the Mughal emperor Jahangir. Richard Burton is quoted to have said, transporting Taj Mahal would have been an expensive affair thus I gave Elizabeth the Tasj Mahal Pendant.
