The Presidio Golf Course has had the legendary baseball player Joe DiMaggio on its lists of members for more than three decades. The image of the celebrated player is still maintained as an integral part of the golf course, with his locker number 150, being still retained with his nameplate. This was the place, where DiMaggio used to hang around with his friends even long after leaving baseball. While DiMaggio was one of the most prolific members in the rich history of Presidio Golf course, W. Lawson Little Jr. remains the most outstanding of all its players. He honed is golfing skills on the tough Presidio track from his teenage days.
As a member of the Walker Cup team in 1934, he added a number of international cups to his name and went on to win the British and U.S Amateur back-to-back in the mid-1930s. As a professional, he won the U.S. Open in 1940, and in his every success he echoed his home course Presidio.
