Mosquito – or the personal touch for luxury helicopter owners
How many of you have thought about flying cars? What about a personal helicopter that is open to the air? The Mosquito might just be a combination of the two. This is the newest technology and it is creating a stir among the military and civilians alike because of the applications it may have.
First of it, it needs to be said that this looks nothing like any helicopter that you have ever seen before. It is almost like looking at a basket that the driver/pilot sits in. Directly to the side of the driver/pilot, there are two round, open turbines, one on each side, that are a bit elevated off the ground. There are two more of them on the mosquito too. One of these is located at the front and one to the rear. There is no canopy.
The Mosquito is controlled by two levers which are connected to an internal computer. The rotate the craft in the direction the pilot wants. Stability is handled by the computer and if the pilot runs into trouble, the emergency landing program automatically kicks on.
The military is looking at this for possible use in difficult terrains because of its ability to easily maneuver through caves, in convoys and even through forests. This is also a green vehicle in that it is powered by four electric motors with Gemini technology. The energy is supplied to the motors by carbon nanotube super-capacitors.
Cikaric Dragans is the producer of the Mosquito and if they keep things up with technology and innovations like this, then they will be around for years to come. These are not officially on the market yet, but when they do hit the market, expect them to make a huge splash.
