sikorsky-expands-in-accessories

On the second day of July this year, Sikorsky Aerospace Services, which is a division of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, announced that it has acquired the company LifePort, Inc. LifePort is based in Washington and manufactures aircraft accessories. They do specialize in a few particular accessories however. These special accessories include but are not limited to air medical systems, interior furnishings; light weight armor as well as Enflite galley equipment and all of these things are manufactured for both fixed wing and rotor aircraft.

After completion of the acquisition, LifePort which has always been privately owned will henceforth be called “LifePort, a Sikorsky Aerospace Services Company”. They will also be able to keep their current management team in house. The Washington facility will be retained also while more facilities are planned to open in Plano, Texas and Georgetown.

With LifePort’s 2009 earnings to be reported at over $65 million USD, the selling price was more than likely a pretty one although as of yet no amount has been announced.

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is an American based aircraft manufacturer that has been in business since 1925 when Igor Sikorsky founded it. It was originally based in Roosevelt, New York and had the moniker “Sikorsky Manufacturing Company”. The move to Stratford, Connecticut came in 1929 and the company is based there to this day. It was also in 1929 that Sikorsky was acquired by United Aircraft and Transport Corporation.

After all this time, Sikorsky retains the status of being one of the foremost helicopter manufacturers in the world. They produce the SH-60 Seahawk, and the UH-60 Black Hawk. They have also supplied the Presidential helicopters since the year 1957.

This looks to be a very beneficial arrangement for all parties involved and in time everyone will see the benefits of this acquisition.
