X3 vs. X4 – the battle of the luxury helicopter
A lot of things change in the market of helicopters very fast. Last year it has been said that Sikorsky managed to create the world’s fastest helicopter, with a speed of 260 knots, meaning 299 mph. Nonetheless we don’t have to be afraid for the Eurocopter X3 either because it is right behind the other chopper. The X3 is considered to be a hybrid, coming with turboprop technology and a traditional rotor. According to the measurements, the X3 managed to achieve a speed of 180 knots, meaning 333km/h.
This result doesn’t seem to be that impressive at all, but we have to add that the luxury helicopter hasn’t been operating at full engine power. Now imagine what results it could obtain if you brought out the best of it.
Eurocopter doesn’t seem to like to be on the second place, and so it is running multiple tests, trying to beat 220 knots on the second test. Although they didn’t manage to bring out high speeds of the deluxe helicopter, they managed to find some new things that are considered to be quite new to helicopter flight. These include reaching an altitude of 3,810 meters and also moving with right and left turns at angles up to 60 degrees.
The helicopter comes with a Dauphin frame and most probably you also know that the product comes with two turboshaft engines made by Rolls-Royce. This is used to power the rotor that gas five blades and also two propellers that can be found on the short-span fixed wings.
Now just consider all the things that the X3 model can do and also imagine that the Eurocopter X4 is said to take everything to another level. This means that in this case the goal is to reach the sky, both figuratively and literally.
