Leaf House – or how should one design a luxury residence
Using a fusion of artificial and nature elements, this stunning residence is a living beauty. With a leaf-shaped roof, The Leaf House assures its owner will live in a natural harmony. Located in the amazing part of Rio de Janeiro, the architectural design of this house was worked by the architects Mareines & Patalano who inspired by the true beauty of Brazil’s Indian architecture.
Using natural ventilation system, this amazing residence is equipped with large interior space to make sure the winds could bring the freshness from the sea to the entire building. Specially designed for hot climate like Angra dos Reis, The Leaf House has a unique in-between open space which could be used for social areas. The ceilings are so high; around 3 to 9 meters making sure the wind could blow smoothly through the building. With the basic concept of low-tech eco-efficiency, this building is designed to support both human kind and the welfare of the nature.
Different from many luxurious residences, The Leaf House has no corridors at all so the difference between indoors and outdoors is almost invisible. There are only glazed sliding doors sparkling throughout the building to control the amount of sea breeze that flows in.
Speaking of landscape, we could see it at almost anywhere on the ground floor. The swimming pool of this house is an essential part to make the house come alive. Curvy swimming pool runs into the house, passes the dining room, and transforms into a beautiful pond. There are various plants and fishes that make the pond look alive.
This house is built from many unique materials like eucalyptus and pinus taeda. Each of them has special uniqueness from the big size to the complexity of its surface. Metals are also used, especially to harvest rainwater via central steel column and will be used for gardening or flushing the toilet.
