Barbados – the most famous luxury colonial destination
Barbados is a beautiful island that lies almost a hundred miles east of the main chain of Caribbean Windward Island which is some 1,600 miles southeast of Miami. Barbados is not volcanic like the other proximal Windward Islands. It is a coral island and is flat surfaced. The island comprises of 70 miles white sand area. The size of the island is 21 miles long and 14 miles width. Barbados has another name called ‘Little England’ that was derived from its 341 years colonial rule. It was ruled by the British, who landed in the island in 1625. The island got its independence in 1966.
Barbados touches a million visitors on a yearly basis. It is one of the most favored and preferred tourist spot in the Caribbean Islands. Many of these visitors are cruise ship passengers who arrive at the harbor Bridgetown. Bridgetown is Barbados’ historical capital. The island will be crowded in the Christmas and Easter seasons.
The best part of the island is its warm tropical climate and during the cold months of December to May visitors would head to the island to find solace in its warmth. The daily average temperature would be around 28 degrees Centigrade that amounts to 83 degrees Fahrenheit. The winter is usually cooler and dryer and July is a rainy season making it the wettest month, June to October is the hurricane season, especially September and October are more humid than other months.
Barbados Island still retains some of the colonial heritage and legacy which can be deciphered from many English place names, left driving, roundabouts in place of traffic lights, and an afternoon tea. The main tourist area of this island is located on the west coast and the east coast that are wild and windy. The spot has proper sheltering and protection for its tourists. No wonder, the Barbados Island is one of the best places to visit.
