Mago Island is surely the pulsing heart of the southwest Pacific. This Fijian island has been always subject of quarrels between owners and local people. There is no question why Mago Island is so disputed. This piece of paradise belongs to Mel Gibson since 2005. Mel bought it from the previews owner, an American billionaire for 15 million dollars. The actor has built an impressive private resort.

This paradise is an area of “only” 2,200 hectares, and the actor has no concerns about maintenance. According to the native population of Mago the sale of the island is not valid, because the ancestors of the local residents were displaced from Mago in the 19th century. The Members of the tribe hopes that the Government of Fiji will help them fight for their eternal right. Authorities, however, now refuse to intervene in this convoluted case, arguing that the sale was regular and all laws are complied with. The protests didn’t affect the beauty of Mago and we must admit- Mel certainly has a taste.

Mago Island is the largest private island in the southwest Pacific, with white sands and coral reefs, protruding above the turquoise-blue water. The rich eco-system of this area is still untouched and yet to be discovered. Mel left most of the areas in the island free and in their natural look, simply because he didn’t want to destroy and moderate what nature did here. Mago is magical with its options for all kind of diving sports, walks into the wild nature, discovering new flora and fauna, exploring views that hold the breath.

The beaches here grab the attention with their divine beauty. Otherwise Mel has built 35 houses for himself and his workers. The luxury residence of the actor is maintained from about 14 people, who are also responsible for the whole island.
