In case you love nature, like having fun in the sun and you don’t mind being in solitude, then the perfect job for you might be to become the caretaker of a private island.
One of those people who have this kind of luxury job is James Ralston, who shares his island caretaker story. He used to be a boat captain and he loved sailing, as well as a dose of solitude. He gets to enjoy perfect weather and different kinds of water sports. According to him this is a perfect job that comes with little downsides. He doesn’t mind being alone, but if he gets bored he can go anytime to a bar that is at about an hour distance.
One of his favorite activities is fishing around the island, because according to him there is nothing better than a dinner that you yourself have caught.
There are some companies that are handling the management and the rental of private islands, such as Private Islands Inc, and they are often called to make a match between the private islands and the caretakers. Although this isn’t the main activity of the company, they often make contact between the owner and the possible caretaker. Many times the island owners are looking for recommendations regarding the crew that they should have.
Although at first, island managing seems to be simple, this way of life may not be suitable for everybody. According to him the island owners are usually busy and demanding people and this is why the caretakers should be ready and available any time their services are needed. Nonetheless if we take into consideration all the advantages that this kind of lifestyle has, in the end it all seems to be worth it.
