BALTIC 72 GRAND PRIX
Baltic 72 Grand Prix is a joint r&d project between Baltic yachts and Italian owner Mr. Alessandro Rombelli, who just recently won the melges 20 gold cup championship. The boat will be delivered in summer 2012 and was designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co to comply with the mini maxi irc rules. This innovative 72 footer will compete with the fastest mini maxis ever built, taking part in prestigious races around the Mediterranean.
The boat will have a pre-preg carbon epoxy sandwich laminate with kevlar honeycomb core in both the hull and deck and as is normal for Baltic yachts the weight of the project is being strictly controlled with both technical calculations and scheduled weight checks. “The production of the Baltic 72 grand prix is well under way. The hull mould is ready and the mounting of the keel trunk and hull lamination have started”, explains Baltic yachts’ project manager Daniel Wahlroos.
Other special features are the fixed keel with an impressive draft and the retractable propeller system which enables a flush underwater hull while sailing. The interior will be a mix of painted and untreated carbon with 12 pipe cots, a galley area and one head. To further save weight there is no interior lighting and the crew will have to use headlights when under deck. Baltic 72 grand prix is also equipped with a hall spars carbon mast with racing boom and a composite standing rigging.
The project comes under the careful management of the owner’s representative, Silvio Arrivabene, a young veteran within racing and especially America’sCcup, from where the majority of the boat crew also comes. Silvio explains “this yacht is being put together in a very short period of time, but i have complete confidence in the project, since we have gathered the best people from within the industry who have a lot of experience and have been building racing yachts all their lives.”
Because Baltic 72 grand prix represents such an exciting teamwork and innovative project, both for the owner and Baltic yachts, we have designed a dedicated website where interested parties can follow the progress of the project right through to delivery and beyond by visiting http://www.baltic72grandprix.com/
